View of the Central place (Sükhbaatar place) in Ulan-bator. In the center of this central point of Ulan-bator, you can the the statue of Damnidii Sükhbaatar, national hero of the communist revolution in 1921. The fall communism in Mongolia changed the face of all aspect of the country. But relicas of communism are still very present in Mongolia. |

The sky is blue all winter in Mongolia. The climate is extreme but very dry. Mongolia is known as the country of blue sky. This road is not too far from the international airport of Buyant Ukhaa (Ulaanbaatar). A few kilometres from downtown Ulan-Bator, there is not much to see. |

In the suburb of Ulan-Bator, people live in the traditional yurt (felt tent) Many mongolian herders left their traditionnal life of the steppe to come in the mongolian capital, hoping for a better life. Mongolia is one of the poorest country in the world and this poverty is very high in the suburb of Ulan-Bator. This mongolian mother and her daughter are going in a unformal school in the suburb of Bayan Khoshoo. |

In the last 15 years, many mongolian herders came to Ulan-Bator. Most of them lost their nomadic traditions to give a better life to their family. But the unemployment is very high in Mongolia and most of them realise how hard is the life in the mongolian capital. Only a few of them suceed to exit the vicious circle of poverty. Mongolia is one of the poorest country in the world. |

In downtown Ulan-Bator, the apartment are like everywhere in the soviet World. High building with many appartments inside, the average price to rent an appartment (for mongolians) is about 80 US per months. Foreigners will be asked a lot more (200-300 US) which is not so bad when we compare with price with most of our western cities. |

The mongolian capital Ulan-Bator changes very quickly.This picture was taken from the central Place. From there, we can see the Post office, many buildings from the mongolian government and some museums. Central place (Sükhbaatar place) is an important meeting point for all kind of manifestation. Strike, festival, revolution or election, this place is a central point for mongolian people. |

Around the mongolian capital, only few kilomteres of road are paved. Besides that part, the mongolian road are usually unpaved and changes according with the weaher. This road brings us to a nice spot outside Ulan-Bator. You wont have to go very far to feel the liberty of the mongolian landscape. 5 kilometres outside of Ulan-bator, you already feel in another world. |
